Mealtime Care

Eating, chewing, and drinking difficulties are known as swallowing difficulties (Dysphagia). Swallowing difficulties can impact on a person’s day-to-day activities, their wellbeing and ability to live the life they wish.

The Vivir team can offer:

  • Assessments and supports to implement safe mealtime strategies, swallow rehabilitation techniques, and implementing diet and fluid modifications to support swallowing

  • We practice and document in line with the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI)

  • Easy-to-read, client-focused mealtime support plans and reports

  • Recommendations of any specialised equipment and supports you may need e.g. cups, plates, cutlery, thickeners, positioning

  • Training and education to support staff and families on how to better to support your communication and needs within mealtimes

Communication

Communication difficulties can impact social skills, listening, hearing, understanding, reading, speaking, writing and/or using your voice.

Vivir can help you reach your goals and support you by offering comprehensive communication assessments and therapy focusing on:

Training

Vivir trained Speech Pathologist can also offer Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) intervention. This Intervention is provided to assist individuals to understand and use personalized AAC systems to optimize communication activities and participation.

An AAC system is any combination of devices, aids, techniques, symbols, and/or strategies to represent and/or augment spoken and/or written language or to provide an alternative mode of communication to better support in daily living, achieving goals and gaining independence.

AAC system intervention is designed to:

  • Capitalize on strengths and address weaknesses related to underlying structures and functions that affect use of an AAC system

  • Assist the person to acquire new skills and strategies for using the AAC system effectively

  • Modify contextual factors to reduce barriers and enhance facilitators of successful communication and participation

  • Provide appropriate accommodations and other supports, as well as training yourself, support workers and organisation in how to use them

AAC intervention supports clients, their communication partners, teachers, caregivers, and family members to understand, use, maintain, and update personalized AAC systems and other assistive technology.

Telehealth Speech Therapy

Vivir Speech Pathologists can undertake online speech therapy session. The process is simple and easy.

You will be provided with a link to gain access to your appointment remotely. You can then connect to your Speech Pathologist via your computer, tablet or phone.

Your session will be delivered in real-time, just as it would in a face-to-face consultation. Your Speech Therapist will provide assessment and intervention with a variety of engaging strategies and interactive consultation.

Perfect for you if you have a busy schedule, concerned about current health warnings, or if you live within an under-served location (i.e., rural and remote).
