The Role

Due to growth within our business, we are currently looking for Speech Pathologists to pick up flexible referral work at aged care facilities and home care.
This position will see you providing assessments to post-stroke clients with a focus on the assessment, treatment and review of patients with Dysphagia.

Skills and Experience we are seeking

  • Demonstrated competency in assessment and management of swallowing disorders across different patient populations
  • Demonstrated competency in assessment and management of communication disorders across different patient populations
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to proactively seek assistance
  • Skills in prioritising and managing personal and professional demands through high-level time management skills
  • Ability to act within scope of practice in aged care (individual understanding of what this means)
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Understanding of the IDDSI standardisation system for diets/fluids in comparison to previous Australian standards


Job Description

  • Assess and diagnose swallowing and communication difficulties in adults
  • Help to improve mealtimes for residents in aged care facilities and in the community
  • Advocate for communication support for clients with communication difficulties
  • Work closely with clients, families and organisational staff to ensure optimum care needs are met
  • Devise, implement and revise relevant treatment programmes
  • Advise carers on implementing treatment programmes and training other professionals in therapy delivery
  • Assess communication environments
  • Monitor and evaluate service users' progress
  • Work with service users on a one to one basis, and in groups, to deliver therapy
  • Write and maintain confidential client service user case notes and reports, as well as information for service users, carers and other professionals
  • Manage a caseload taking account of priority service uers, successful outcomes and referral and discharge of service users
  • Work with others to improve the effectiveness of service delivery

  • Certified Practicing Speech Pathology Australia membership
